About the Pancreatic Cancer Program
Pancreatic Cancer Treatment at BIDMC
At our Pancreatic Cancer Program, you and your family receive a number of important benefits, including:
- Access to the latest innovations in research and clinical care
- True multidisciplinary expertise, where clinicians from multiple specialties convene to analyze and direct your individual case
- A clinical team committed to warmth and compassion
At BIDMC, we have assembled a team of nationally and internationally renowned pancreas specialists. We lead the region and the country in minimally invasive pancreatic surgery. We perform a high volume of surgical and minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat pancreatic cancers and disorders.
Surgeons use minimally invasive techniques, including state-of-the-art robotic surgery with BIDMC's two DaVinci robotic systems, to biopsy, stage and treat pancreatic tumors. We are recognized widely for our surgical expertise in laparoscopic pancreatectomy, through which part of or even the entire pancreas is removed using minimally invasive techniques.
Compared to traditional "open" procedures, these minimally invasive approaches feature smaller incisions that allow better pain control, minimize blood loss, enhance cosmetic results, and speed recovery back to an active life.
Exceptional Multidisciplinary Care
Our team includes experts in many specialties focused on caring for patients with pancreatic cancer and their families, including:
- Surgical oncology

In our multidisciplinary conference and clinics, a team of physicians — among the leaders in their respective fields — collaborate to discuss your individual pancreatic cancer case, and recommend the best treatment options customized for you.
In our clinic, you will see all your necessary cancer specialists in the most convenient way possible. Although you may meet with one or several doctors at the same time, our entire team is always available to provide immediate consultation about your care.
A Team Approach
Our team approach to evaluation and treatment:
- Enhances diagnostic accuracy and timeliness.
- Promotes stage-based treatment decisions, in order to provide the most appropriate care, tailored to the location and extent of your cancer.
- Gives you the broadest range of treatment alternatives, including less invasive approaches when appropriate.
- Customizes the care you receive.
- Provides truly personalized service to answer your questions and concerns.
We see patients in our Pancreatic Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic for suspected pancreatic disorders and other urgent conditions as soon as possible. Waiting increases stress at an already stressful time, and our goal is to schedule your appointment within 24 hours.
We also offer ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound for diagnosis or palliation (symptom relief) of pancreatic cancer 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you have a pancreatic tumor that warrants surgery, you can expect immediate contact from our offices, and a personal office appointment with our expert pancreatic surgeons within days.
With rapid access comes symptom relief and peace of mind, as well as the assurance that you will receive prompt diagnosis and treatment from a team that cares about your health and well-being, and ready to guide you every step of the way.
There is a remarkable spirit at BIDMC, one of genuine warmth and compassion. We take great pride in our healing mission. We care for you and your loved ones with the utmost respect and compassion, like our own family members or friends. This commitment is at the heart of what makes BIDMC a truly exceptional place.
