Meet Our Leadership Team


Janet Mullington, PhD

Program Director

The CRC Program Director is responsible for the scientific leadership and day-to-day administration of the Clinical Research Center at BIDMC. She is assisted in her role by Jody Dushay, MD, Associate Program Director and Lead Medical Research Officer. She also serves as a resource for investigators seeking to do research in the CRC and provides mentorship and guidance to early career stage clinical and translational investigators.

Dr. Mullington is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. In addition to her role within the Clinical Research Center, Dr. Mullington is actively involved in educational initiatives for Clinical & Translational Investigation. Dr. Mullington is a Research Fellow for the Oliver Wendell Holmes Society of Harvard Medical School, a role dedicated to serving the research training mission of medical students. In addition, she is course director for the Clinical Research Orientation Program for PhDs, a Harvard Catalyst training program designed to facilitate the translation of bench discoveries into the clinical research setting. Nationally, Dr. Mullington is President of the Sleep Research Foundation and past President of the Sleep Research Society. Dr. Mullington is a founding participant of the National Healthy Sleep Awareness project, a CDC, Sleep Research Society, and American Academy of Sleep Medicine initiative. The National Healthy Sleep Awareness project is designed to increase public awareness of the importance of sleep for health and well-being and is an important component of the national Healthy People 2020, a federally supported 10-year agenda to improve the nation’s health.

Dr. Mullington and her team at BIDMC have a national and international reputation of excellence in the area of the role of sleep in human health and disease, with particular focus on inflammation and host defenses. She also works to better understand the impact of sleep on cardiovascular, endocrine and neurobehavioral function.

Jody Dushay, MD

Associate Program Director

The CRC Associate Program Director assists the Program Director in the daily operations of the BIDMC Clinical Research Center. Dr. Dushay is the center Medical Director and Lead Medical Research Officer. In the Medical Direction role, Dr. Dushay provides medical oversight for studies conducted by non-MD and MD investigators in the research center. The Medical Research Officers are also available to assist both new and experienced investigators with developing grants and research protocols, as well as implementing multi-site studies in the Clinical Research Center.

Dr. Dushay is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Her clinical and clinical research interests include obesity and metabolic complications of obesity, particularly type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Dr. Dushay also serves as the Vice Chair of the BIDMC Institutional Review Board. In addition, Dr. Dushay is the Program Director for the BIDMC “Well-Powered Weight Loss and Wellness Program,” an innovative medically supervised weight loss and wellness program.
