Radiology at Chelsea

GE digital breast imaging, along with computer-aided detection technology, helps to find early stage breast cancers. Screening mammography does not require a physician's order. All technologists are licensed by the State of Massachusetts. The breast imaging program in Chelsea is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Ultrasound exams we perform:

• Obstetric

• Small parts

A physician order is required. Our system remotely transmits ultrasound images to BIDMC's campus in Boston for immediate interpretation, allowing ordering physicians to get their patients' results without delay. All sonographers are certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

All X-rays require a physician's order. Newly installed direct imaging equipment allows images to be interpreted and shared with your physician immediately. All technologists are experienced in adult and pediatric imaging. Exams are read by BIDMC board-certified radiologists.

A bone density test is a non-invasive procedure to determine the health of your bones and assess your risk for osteoporosis or bone fractures. It takes less than 30 minutes. We provide state of the art, dual energy X-ray absorptiometry — the most accurate test of bone density available — to diagnose and help treat patients with osteopenia and osteoporosis.

Bone density tests are performed on the first floor at BIDHC-Chelsea, in conjunction with the Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment Center ;at BIDMC, and under the direction of leading osteoporosis expert Harold Rosen, MD.

Most insurance companies will pay for a bone density test once per year. Please check with your insurance company if you have any questions about what is covered.

Referrals are not required to have a bone density test performed at BIDHC-Chelsea, but your referring provider must submit an order.
