Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is committed to providing extraordinary, compassionate and personalized care to our patients. We strive to advance the health of patients from the Boston and New England, as well as those who come to BIDMC from across the country and the world.
Led by internationally-recognized physicians, our care teams are committed to patient safety and comfort. They use the world-class resources available at BIDMC to ensure the highest level of care for every patient. Clinical evaluations and treatment are provided in the following areas.
Medical ICU and Inpatient Consultation Service
Care for critically ill patients is provided in the Medical Intensive Care Units (MICUs) located on BIDMC's East and West Campuses. They are supervised by on-site critical care specialists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More information.
Inpatient pulmonary consultation is available for hospitalized patients with a range of lung diseases and symptoms. The Pulmonary Consultation Service is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week on both East and West Campuses.
Our doctors also provide consultative services for a range of sleep disorders that are relevant to the inpatient population. This innovative inpatient service provides important support for management of sleep disordered breathing. This includes care for patients with peri-operative issues and heart failure.
The Sleep Disorders Center
The Sleep Disorders Center offers comprehensive evaluation and management for the full range of sleep-related disorders. More information.
Pulmonary Ambulatory Center
The Center providers care to patients with a variety of general pulmonary symptoms and conditions. This includes preoperative assessment. Services are provided Monday through Friday in the Pulmonary Ambulatory Center located in the Shapiro Clinical Center, East Campus. More information.
Pulmonary Function Laboratory
Diagnostic testing of lung function for ambulatory patients is performed in the Pulmonary Function Laboratory, located on the first floor of the Rabb building, East Campus. More information.
Pulmonary Hypertension Center
The Center provides care to patients who have suspected or known pulmonary hypertension, including idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension as well as pulmonary hypertension due to other causes. Services are provided in the Pulmonary Hypertension Center located in the Shapiro Clinical Center, East Campus. More information.
Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation
We provide pulmonary rehabilitation services for patients on an outpatient basis. More information.
Interstitial Lung Diseases Center
For ambulatory patients with known or suspected interstitial lung diseases (including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis), services are provided by the Interstitial Lung Disease Center, located in the Shapiro Clinical Center, East Campus. More information.
Asthma and Dyspnea Center
For ambulatory patients requiring specialty services for the evaluation and management of symptoms of dyspnea (a feeling of breathlessness) services are provided in the Asthma and Dyspnea Center, located in Shapiro Clinical Center, East Campus. More information.
