About the Agress Summer Health Corps Program
Program Update: February 5, 2021
Due to continued uncertainties about the COVID-19 virus and vaccination roll-out, we are still unable to confirm the status of the 2021 Agress Summer Health Corps program. If we are able to host the program, the students who were accepted for the 2020 program, which unfortunately had to be cancelled, will be invited to participate. Based on the overwhelming continued interest of that group of students, we can confirm at this time that we will not be able to accept any new applications for 2021.
For the 2020 Summer Health Corps students who plan to take part in the 2021 program, we hope to have an update in March about the status of the program. Thank you for your continued patience.
For other students and parents who are interested in this program, we extend our sincerest apologies for being unable to consider new applicants for next summer.
The Al and Trudy Agress Summer Health Corps Program is an educational hands-on program that gives high school students an opportunity to explore various careers while gaining experience in a hospital setting. The programs runs for six weeks in July and August, and students must be able to participate for the entire program.
What do We Look for in an Applicant?
When assessing applications, we first narrow the field to complete and accurate applications that offer a glimpse of the student's personality and highlight what qualities the student would bring to the patient experience. Additionally, we look for students who are able to manage the application process on their own as well as manage their own schedule. Part of demonstrating this maturity is communicating on one's own behalf whether by phone, email or in person. In fairness to all applicants, we do not discuss applications, interviews or placements with anyone other than the applicant.
We receive many more applications than we have available roles. Our goal is to create a diverse team of committed volunteers who are best suited for our limited number of volunteer opportunities.
