Mark Lawrence Zeidel, MD

Chairman, Department of Medicine

Mark Lawrence Zeidel, MDDr. Mark L. Zeidel, Herrman L. Blumgart Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), is a widely respected scientist, clinician and teacher known for his NIH-funded research in epithelial biology and water transport. He came to BIDMC in July 2005 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where his tenure spanned 12 years, first serving as Chief of the Renal and Electrolyte Division of the Department of Medicine, and then, starting in 1999, as the Jack D. Myers Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine. A summa cum laude graduate of Yale College, he received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was elected to the national honor medical society, alpha omega alpha. He then served as an intern and resident in Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, followed by a renal fellowship at the same institution. He has served on many regional and national committees and is recognized by his peers for his numerous accomplishments, including elected membership to the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.

 

Christopher Smith, MD

Christopher Smith, MDDr. Christopher Smith is the Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Medicine. A graduate of the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine, he completed his internal medicine residency training at BIDMC followed by his Chief Residency. Dr. Smith completed the Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School and served for many years as the Director of the Fellowship. In addition to being the Program Director, Dr. Smith continues as Director of the Clinician Educator Track, has a busy primary care practice, teaches in many different venues, and publishes on a variety of clinical and educational topics including the teaching and assessment of procedural skills, assessment of clinical competence, and the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries.

 

Kelly L. Graham, MD, MPH

Kelly L. Graham, MD, MPHDr. Kelly Graham is the Director of our Ambulatory Training Program, and of our Primary Care Track. She earned her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and her internship and residency at BIDMC. After residency, Kelly served as the primary care chief medical resident, and went on to complete her General Medicine Research Fellowship and Masters in Public Health at the Harvard combined program in General Medicine, and at the Harvard University School of Public Health. She also conducts health services research related to unplanned hospital readmissions and educational research on innovative teaching methods. She developed our ambulatory medicine curriculum, and teaches on the topic of cardiovascular primary prevention, which is her area of clinical expertise as a primary care physician and preceptor.
