EPIC-CP: Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite for Clinical Practice

Peter Chang and Prostate Cancer PatientAs survivorship after prostate cancer diagnosis continues to improve with advances in detection and treatment, the effects of treatment on health-related quality of life are becoming increasingly important. The changes in quality of life for each prostate cancer treatment modality are well-recognized, but objective characterization and quantification of such changes are challenging.

A validated tool specifically for prostate cancer patients — one that would be practical for use in both community and academic clinical practices — has not yet been realized. Hence, we set out to develop and validate a relatively brief and accessible quality of life instrument designed specifically for use in the routine clinical care of prostate cancer patients. This instrument is called EPIC-CP, which stands for Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite for Clinical Practice.
