Our lab investigates motor learning and consolidation. Using a combination of functional brain imaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and behavioral paradigms, we probe the neural basis of "off-line learning", or improvements in skill between sessions, in the absence of practice. We study the effects of neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease on motor learning. By understanding the neural systems subserving motor learning, we hope to improve.
In my clinic, I treat patients with various conditions that impair cognition and motor function. I have a special interest in neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Diffuse Lewy Body disease, and frontotemporal dementia. I also am the Clinical Director of the Berenson Allen Center for Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation, where we use TMS clinically to treat patients with medication-resistant depression.
