Our Clinical Rotations and Curriculum


The Otolaryngology Residency currently has two participating sites, BIDMC and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Clinical Rotations

PGY-1
  • 6 months off service (SICU, anesthesia, vascular/thoracic, neurosurgery, acute care surgery/trauma, plastic surgery)
  • 6 months otolaryngology
PGY-2
  • 3 months otolaryngology outpatient
  • 3 months H&N
  • 3 months otology/general
  • 3 months Boston Children’s
PGY-3
  • 3 months trauma/plastics
  • 3 months Boston Children’s
  • 3 months BIDMC float
  • 3 months research
PGY-4
  • 3 months H&N (chief)
  • 3 months otology/general (chief)
  • 3 months clinical elective
  • 3 months research
PGY-5
  • 3 months facial plastic surgery (administrative chief)
  • 3 months H&N (chief)
  • 3 months otology/general (chief)
  • 3 months BIDMC float (administrative chief)

Curriculum

The curriculum will be guided by the curriculum designated by the American Academy of Otolaryngology: Comprehensive Otolaryngologic Curriculum Learning through Interactive Approach (COCLIA). 

The residency program has dedicated education time from 7:00 – 10:00 am on Wednesdays.

7:00 – 8:00 am: Monthly journal clubs, QI conferences, research meetings, and “History of Otolaryngology” seminars will be rotated
8:00 – 9:00 am: High-yield lecture by faculty
9:00 – 10:00 am: Resident-led, faculty-facilitated case presentations

Additional educational conferences:

  • Quarterly grand rounds
  • Weekly tumor boards (H&N and skull base)
  • Monthly interdisciplinary airway conferences
  • Audiology and vestibular conferences
