OB/GYN Elective in Botswana
The Botswana Harvard Partnership was established in 1996 between the Government of Botswana and the Harvard School of Public Health in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Botswana. The partnership focused initially on research and building capacity to strengthen the Botswana health system.
To further the Botswana Harvard Partnership mission, in 2011 the BIDMC Department of Medicine launched a clinical elective at Scottish Livingstone Hospital. In 2014, OB/GYN resident rotations started with support from the BIDMC Department of OB/GYN. In 2016, the BIDMC Department of OB/GYN hired a full-time OB/GYN physician faculty member to be based in Botswana to lead this initiative.
