Fellows will take endocrine call rotations one to two nights per week and 1 weekend per month during which time they will be responsible for coverage of ovulation monitoring, routine calls and emergency night surgery with faculty supervision.
The conferences are scheduled as follows. Weekly Wednesday morning conferences at the BIDMC occur at 7:00 am; BIDMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Grand Rounds are held at 8:00 am. The 7:00 am conference rotates between basic research presentations, departmental journal club, resident topics and fellow special topics each month. Once per month, fellows participate in a conference day at Boston IVF, which includes a patient care committee conference from 7:30 am to 9:00 am, in which difficulty IVF cases are presented. Boston IVF Grand Rounds are then held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A research conference follows from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, and then an outside speaker presents a basic science or clinical topic related to various aspects of reproductive endocrinology. A Reproductive Endocrine Case conference is held each Friday at 7:00 am for the fellows and all available residents. patients with endocrine/menstrual related problems are presented for in-depth discussion prepared by residents and the clinical fellow. The fellows attend a weekly medical endocrinology conference on Friday mornings as well. Fellows will meet weekly with Dr. Penzias and Dr. Thornton to discuss topics of interest and or fellow research.
Optional conferences that fellows are encouraged to attend include the New England Fertility Society quarterly meetings and the REI lecture series is held on Tuesdays at 5:00 pm at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. This is given by outside speakers and faculty, largely in basic science related to various aspects of reproductive endocrinology.
National Conference Participation
Fellows will be expected to attend and actively participate in both the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation Annual Meetings.
