Nutrition Services Medical Education
BIDMC is renowned for its surgical and clinical expertise, state-of-the-art trauma center, and highest quality patient care. Located in the Longwood Medical Area, BIDMC is a teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School. Locally BIDMC is known as the "Harvard with a Heart."
The BIDMC Dietetic Internship is a 10-month program emphasizing nutrition therapy. The program provides more than 1200 supervised hours in Clinical Nutrition, Foodservice Systems Management, and Community Nutrition. Interns received in-depth training in outpatient counseling, critical care, and enteral and parenteral nutrition support. Interns also participate in weekly classes, group projects, and academic lectures to foster learning and enrich the internship experience.
Feedback from our interns indicates their high satisfaction with the program. They appreciate the team atmosphere, the weekly class days which allow them time to connect and bond with classmates, the complex and diverse patient population, and our dedicated preceptors.
The interns enjoy the benefits of the hospital's close proximity to other outstanding medical and research facilities in the area. In addition, they find time to explore nearby historical and cultural institutions such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Symphony Hall, and, of course, Fenway park. BIDMC's long-standing status as the official hospital of the Boston Red Sox, allows interns to enjoy $5 game tickets as often as they like!
