Merit RotationMERIT is a unique rotation that provides coverage to services needed throughout the hospital-caring for medical patients in the emergency room with prolonged wait times for transfer, helping busy wards teams whose residents or interns are in clinic, and performing medical consultation. This is a JAR/SAR only rotation and lasts for one week.

MERIT exists as both a day and night rotation in twelve-hour shifts (7 am to 7 pm or 7 pm to 7 am).

Day MERIT (7 am to 7 pm): Primary responsibilities include management of emergency room patients awaiting inpatient medical or cardiac beds for more than two hours, providing medical consultation on patients from other services, assisting inpatient teams in triaging admissions to the appropriate location. The MERIT resident is supervised by a dedicated medicine attending for consults and patients awaiting a bed in the ED.

Night MERIT (7 pm to 7 am): Primary responsibilities include management of emergency room patients awaiting inpatient medical or cardiac beds for more than two hours, supervise nightfloat interns, complete overnight medicine consults, and assist the nightfloat admitting residents as necessary.
