The Office of Development serves as a catalyst to develop strategic, mutually beneficial philanthropic partnerships between corporations and foundations and the BIDMC community. The goal of these relationships is to assist corporations and foundations in fulfilling their own missions while advancing the research, clinical, educational, and outreach goals of BIDMC.
Each year, hundreds of corporations and foundations make philanthropic gifts to advance the mission of BIDMC. There are many ways in which a corporation or foundation can support BIDMC through a gift or grant, including:
Unrestricted support for the Medical Center's most pressing needs and unique opportunities
Clinical or research program development
Capital needs, including physical spaces and equipment
Faculty and senior investigator endowments
Sponsorship of highly visible public events
Fellowships and other training opportunities
Workforce development programs
Cause marketing partnerships
Corporation and foundation support is critical to our continued success. If your corporation or foundation is interested in supporting BIDMC's leading-edge endeavors, please contact our office at 617-667-7330 to learn more about our efforts.
Many local and national companies encourage generosity by matching their employees' charitable gifts. Most of these programs match gifts dollar for dollar or more, which can double-or triple-the amount of your gift.
Contact your company's human resources department to find out if your employer offers a matching gifts program. Your human resources department can provide you with the appropriate matching gift forms, which you can mail to our office:

Thousands of people each year use our Tribute Giving Program to celebrate, honor, or memorialize loved ones by making gifts in their name. From tributes that mark an important occasion to memorials that perpetuate the legacy of someone who has passed away, these gifts are a significant source of support for the Medical Center's innovative programs.
Gifts in Celebration
A Gift in Celebration is a unique opportunity to let family members, friends, or colleagues know that you are thinking of them. These gifts are often made to mark an important event like the birth of a child or grandchild, a wedding, anniversary, graduation, retirement, holiday, or other memorable occasion. BIDMC will send a letter to the individual being honored to acknowledge your thoughtfulness.
Gifts in Honor
A Gift in Honor can acknowledge the work of a clinician who deserves extra recognition for his or her compassion and commitment. These gifts offer individual grateful patients and their families the chance to show their appreciation for the outstanding care offered by a physician, nurse, or other care provider. BIDMC will send a letter to the individual(s) being honored.
Gifts in Memory
A Gift in Memory is a very special way for family and friends to express their sympathy while helping BIDMC advance health care in the community and beyond. Many people choose to make these gifts in lieu of flowers. The Medical Center will acknowledge all donations given in memory by a letter to the next of kin with an expression of sympathy.
When you make your gift, please provide the name of the person being honored, as well as the type of occasion (such as birthday or anniversary). Please indicate the names and addresses of those you would like BIDMC to notify of your gift, such as the honoree themselves or their family members.
A gift of long-term appreciated securities provides capital gains tax
savings and allows you to claim an income-tax charitable deduction-all
while supporting the lifesaving mission of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Mutual Fund Shares
Gifts may also be made from mutual fund accounts to Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center. You are required to write a letter of
instruction to your mutual fund stating the number of shares being given
to the Medical Center, the timing of the gift, and the name of the
account from which the shares are coming.
For assistance making your gift with appreciated securities or mutual funds shares, please contact our office at 617-667-7330.
A gift-in-kind is a voluntary contribution of goods or services that can be used to advance the mission of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). It is also a gift that can be readily converted to cash and may qualify as a charitable deduction for the individual(s) making the gift.
Please note that contributed services cannot be counted as a gift and do not qualify as a charitable tax deduction to the donor. However, a donor of services may be able to deduct expenses incurred while performing said services. In such cases, the donor should be advised to consult with a tax accountant.
If the item is to be converted to cash, then the donor may claim a deduction of the cost value or the fair market value, whichever is less. It is the sole responsibility of the donor to determine the value of a contributed item; the receiver cannot assign a value to the donated item(s).
BIDMC will enter the contribution of a gift-in-kind in its donor database and issue a receipt to the donor. The receipt will contain only a description of the contribution and will not include a statement as to the value of the contribution. It will further contain a statement as to what, if any, goods or services were given in exchange for the contribution. BIDMC cannot issue an acknowledgement for contributions that cannot be used or readily converted to cash.
The IRS has specific regulations regarding gifts-in-kind. For more information on BIDMC's policy for accepting gifts-in-kind, call the Office of Development at 617-667-7330.
