Investing in the Future of Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Major gift establishes BIDMC Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology
We are excited to share the news of a truly inspiring $3 million gift from Annie and Chase Koch to create The Annie and Chase Koch Chair in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and launch a transformative program in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The goal of this key initiative will be saving maternal lives in Boston and around the world from the complications of placenta accreta, a condition associated with life-threatening hemorrhage. The first incumbent of this endowed BIDMC chair will be Scott Shainker, D.O., a maternal-fetal medicine physician who is immersed in raising awareness and advancing innovation in the management of placental disorders.
Dr. Shainker co-founded and serves as the Director of the New England Center for Placental Disorders, which provides exceptional evidence-based and compassionate care to women and their families facing a diagnosis of invasive placentation. The gift will support Dr. Shainker’s comprehensive care of women with placental disorders, including a research arm to help improve diagnosis and treatment of this condition. We are immensely grateful to Annie and Chase Koch for their generosity and their dedication to BIDMC and the promising future of maternal-fetal medicine.
