New Inpatient Building Groundbreaking Celebration

June 13, 2019

On June 13, more than 150 Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center supporters gathered for a special groundbreaking celebration for the institution's new inpatient building. Slated to open in 2023, this 10-story building marks a major milestone for BIDMC, with its construction in the planning stages since 2015. With eight state-of-the-art operating rooms, 128 medical-surgical beds, and 30 ICU beds—all with leading-edge equipment—this new building will modernize and upgrade patient care and clinical environments to respond to the increasingly acute, complex needs of BIDMC's patients.

This historic groundbreaking celebration featured remarks by BIDMC President Peter Healy; Beth Israel Lahey Health President and CEO Kevin Tabb, M.D.; Chief of Cardiology Robert Gerszten, M.D.; Trustee Advisory Board Chair and grateful cardiovascular patient Pamela Lesser; BIDMC Campaign Co-Chair and Beth Israel Lahey Health Trustee Douglas Linde; and City of Boston Chief of Health and Human Services Marty Martinez.
