BIDMC Chelsea

CHELSEA, Mass. – Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare Chelsea (BIDHC-Chelsea) celebrated 20 years of caring for the community with a celebration Thursday night at the health care center on Broadway. BIDHC-Chelsea offers patients world-class care close to home and streamlined access to the expertise and resources of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston.

“Patients and their families want and deserve extraordinary care right in their own communities,” said Jayne Carvelli-Sheehan, Senior Vice President for Ambulatory and Emergency Services and System Clinical Integration. “A commitment to delivering the very best care close to home is at the heart of what we do at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and we are deeply proud of the role we play in the Chelsea community.”

"It's been a privilege to firmly put down our roots in Chelsea," said Kelly Orlando, Executive Director for Ambulatory Services at BIDMC. "The need for world-class health care north of Boston is evident by the remarkable and continued expansion of our specialty services as well as primary medicine, and we look forward to the next 20 years as part of this community.”

BIDHC-Chelsea offers a broad range of primary care and specialty services, including cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, orthopedics and physical therapy. BIDHC-Chelsea also provides onsite laboratory testing and radiology services, including diagnostic testing, x-ray, mammography and bone densitometry. All of the 37 physicians practicing in Chelsea are also on staff at BIDMC and faculty of Harvard Medical School.

Many of the center’s physicians, nurses and staff are bilingual. In 2014, the CardioVascular Clinic (CVI) launched a Latino Cardiovascular Clinic at BIDHC-Chelsea, which offers culturally sensitive cardiovascular services for Spanish-speaking patients.

Last year, nearly 40,000 patients visited BIDHC-Chelsea for internal medicine, OB/GYN and other specialty care. More than 30,000 people received ancillary services, including laboratory tests, radiology, physical therapy and pulmonary function tests.

BIDHC-Chelsea cares for patients from Chelsea and nearby communities, including Revere, Everett, Winthrop, Saugus, Melrose, Stoneham, Lynn and Wakefield.

“Over the past 20 years, I have had the great fortune of working with some amazing community partners to improve public access and enhance the ecological vitality of the Mill Creek and Chelsea Creek waterfront,” said Roseann Bongiovanni, Executive Director of the Chelsea Collaborative, who spoke at the event. “BIDHC-Chelsea has been a vital, contributing stakeholder to these improvements. It has been refreshing to work with BIDHC-Chelsea not only on urban environmental improvements, but as a vital member of our community advocating and improving public health through their numerous departments, programs and qualified staff. We look forward to the next 20 years.”
