Medical Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition Support for Patients with Cancer

The Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) Service provides comprehensive assessment and counseling to meet the individual  patient's nutritional needs.

healthyfoods

Our goal is to help you develop an understanding of how food and nutrition affect your health and well-being — specifically, how nutrition therapy can aid in maintaining your overall health during and after your cancer treatment protocols. We also provide information on nutrition for cancer prevention.

Appointments

A registered dietitian (RD) and nutrition support expert will work closely with you, your family and your health care providers to improve your health and nutritional status. Nutrition appointments with a registered dietitian specializing in oncology are available Monday - Friday. Please call 617-667-2565 or email nutritionclinic@bidmc.harvard.edu to schedule an appointment.

Insurance Information

Most insurance providers require a referral from your primary care physician for nutrition services. If this is required by your health insurer, please obtain the referral prior to scheduling a nutrition visit. A co-payment may be due at the time of your visit.

Snacks and Refreshments

In addition to the nutrition services provided by our nutrition department, snacks and lunches are provided to our patients who are waiting to see their health care provider and for those who are receiving infusion treatments. Volunteers, who are usually former patients, serve as volunteers on the oncology outpatient floors.
