Savithri Kota, PhD
Instructor in Medicine, Harvard Medical School

Research in Dr. Savithri Kota's lab is focused on gaining a deeper understanding of the molecular signaling pathways that underlie acute kidney injury and repair. We use novel mouse models in order to devise effective therapies harnessing the intrinsic tissue protective mechanisms. We are interested in (1) understanding the pathophysiological changes in aging kidneys, specifically addressing the role of retinoic acid signaling pathway in aged kidneys during injury response; (2) elucidating the role of Kim-1/Tim-1 in the acute kidney injury using conditional null mouse strains; and (3) identification of new genes and pathways that influence the outcome of kidney injury and repair.
