Professional Biography

Dr. Hamel's research has focused on decision-making, clinical outcomes and costs of intensive care and major surgery for elderly patients. Her work also has included evaluations of the cost-effectiveness of a variety of treatment strategies in elderly patients with chronic and serious illnesses. Dr. Hamel is the Executive Deputy Editor for the New England Journal of Medicine and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
