Halamka, M.D., M.S.On May 1, 2018, the Board of Overseers hosted another spectacular Critical Voices event, which showcased how technology is revolutionizing the world of health care.  More than 300 people assembled at the Mandarin Oriental Boston to hear John Halamka, M.D., M.S., Beth Israel Deaconess chief information officer and an international thought leader in information technology, deliver a BID Talk on the most important innovations in medicine and their implications for the future.  The event was also the opportunity to announce the launch of BID’s new Health Technology Exploration Center (HTEC), for which Halamka will act as executive director.  His talk was followed by a Q&A discussion with Michael Howell, M.D., M.P.H., chief clinical strategist at Google, and Diane Hessan, chair of C Space.  BIDMC CEO Kevin Tabb, M.D., highlighted the medical center’s technological prowess and how it will feature prominently in ongoing efforts to transform health care.  The provocative and eye-opening evening also featured BIDMC Trustee Jeremy Wertheimer, Ph.D., Board of Overseers Chair Danielle Remis Hackel, and Trustee and IT Committee Chair Gideon Argov.  The event’s reception included a silent auction of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to throw out the first pitch during a Red Sox game at Fenway Park; the proceeds from the auction, won by BIDMC Trustee Jim Dougherty, will fund technology for vulnerable kids at Bowdoin Street Health Center, a BIDMC affiliate, and were matched by an anonymous donor.
