Our roots in performing weight loss surgery go back more than 30 years with the pioneering efforts of the late Dr. George Blackburn.

We are one of Boston's oldest and most experienced bariatric centers with a multidisciplinary, dedicated team of specially trained doctors, nurses, dietitians and social workers.

We work to provide caring and understanding through a quality of care that is personal and respects each individual's privacy. We are dedicated to providing education and assistance through the entire weight loss process. Access to all disciplines will provide the tools needed to reduce risks to health and aid in weight loss success.

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) SealThe Weight Loss Surgery Center at BIDMC has achieved the highest level accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for our safe, comprehensive program and our commitment to excellence in the care and treatment of people undergoing weight loss surgery.

We are accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), which requires a rigorous peer evaluation in accordance with nationally recognized standards and on-site visits by a trained MBSAQIP bariatric surgeon surveyor.
