Social Work in Obstetrics and Gynecology


The Ob/Gyn social work staff specialize in women's health and are available to provide counseling, education and emotional support to patients and families.

The Ob/Gyn social work staff are master's prepared clinicians who have expertise in a broad range of issues including routine and high risk pregnancy; family planning; HIV counseling; pregnancy loss and bereavement; family and relationship issues.

Our social workers and community resource specialist have knowledge and expertise in resources that are specific to pregnancy, parenting, and newborn services. We can provide you with information and referrals to group programs, community services and benefits. The social work staff are part of the patient care team and accept referrals from your doctors, nurses as well as direct referrals from you and/or your family.

  • Adjustment to pregnancy and to motherhood in the postpartum period
  • Stress and worries of high-risk pregnancies
  • Evaluation of post-partum mood disorders

  • Concerns about surgery, medical symptoms or disorders
