Gynecologic Care for Women with Intellectual Disabilities

The KIND Clinic at BIDMC is the first clinic in New England to specialize in gynecologic care for women with intellectual and developmental disabilities ( I/DD). We provide gentle and compassionate care to meet the needs of women (21 years or older) with the following underlying diagnoses:

  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Down syndrome
  • Fragile X syndrome
  • Sanfilippo syndrome

Exam rooms are wheelchair accessible and equipped with patient lifts. Specially-trained medical assistants are also available to assist in positioning for physical exams.

Gynecologic care services include:

  • Annual exams
  • Breast health
  • Contraceptive management
  • Feminine hygiene
  • Menopause
  • Menstrual cycle management
  • Pap smear and HRHPV testing
  • Pelvic pain
  • Preventive care
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Vaginal infections

Make an Appointment

Appointments for the KIND Clinic are offered the first Wednesday of the month (8 a.m.-noon) and the fourth Friday of the month (1:00 - 5:00 p.m.). Each appointment is with BIDMC nurse practitioner Kate Nolan for one hour. Call 617-667-3738 to make an appointment.
