Maine Update

Every so often, not very often, I write a personal blog. Last summer I wrote about our rather impulsive purchase of a tiny cottage on a tidal pond on Mt Desert Island, Maine. We have been vacationing here, renting a series of lovely homes, for years, and the discovery of what was then called "Art's Place" was irresistible. The sale was finalized right before Labor Day, and we came up to spend our first week-end in our own place. It poured rain one night, and the ceiling leaked. We were surrounded on all sides by knotty pine. The oven didn't work, and the bed was uncomfortable. We still loved it.
When we came again in December (staying elsewhere), the cottage had been gutted, and we trusted the vision of the architect. We are here again (still staying elsewhere) this week-end to check the progress, and our faith was well-placed. It is still tiny, but it is becoming magical. There are windows and light everywhere, and we can easily imagine ourselves very happily tucked inside.
Here is the view from the master bedroom. Note that, when the tide is in, you can't even see the land. It is like being on a boat.
