This is a podcast/PDF from Living Beyond Breast Cancer about managing treatment side effects with complementary therapies. The speaker, Barrie Cassileth, MD, is a well known expert in this field, and this is quite interesting. In my own experience, lots of women use acupuncture, meditation, massage, and Reiki to help themselves through treatment--all potentially useful with no harmful side effects. The rule continues to be to check with your doctor before using anything that you swallow (which might interfere with the chemotherapy or other drugs).

About Our Speaker

Dr. Cassileth has worked in complementary medicine for more than 25 years. In 1999, she created the Integrative Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. This program offers both inpatient therapies and outpatient services, and studies the ability of specific complementary therapies to reduce symptoms associated with cancer and its treatments and the use of botanicals for potential antitumor effects. Dr. Cassileth is the founding president of the International Society for Integrative Oncology.
