Breast Reconstruction

Making a decision about breast reconstruction is extremely tough. Especially since women are often confronted with this choice at a time of high emotional distress and turmoil (otherwise known as "you have just learned that you have breast cancer"), the options may seen overwhelming. Some women know immediately how they wish to proceed--whether that means no reconstruction or a particular type of reconstruction, but most have never thought about the situation and are, naturally, not well informed about the possibilities.

Every woman who needs or chooses a mastectomy needs a little time to process all this information and an appointment with at least one plastic surgeon to hear about the options (unless, of course, she is sure that she is not interested in surgery beyond the mastectomy itself). It is very often helpful to speak with other women who have made a range of decisions. If you are having trouble finding these women, contact me, and I will happily make the connections.
