The face of medicine
Does your doctor look like you? Or at least have an understanding of what make you tick?
Dr. Alden Landry, an emergency room physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, is trying to address that question as it affects the 13 percent of the U.S. population that is African-American.
Part of that effort was launching a Tour for Diversity in Medicine, which recently completed a tour of historic black colleges to "cultivate, educate and inspire" future physicians beyond the 3 percent of African-Americans who now become doctors.
WBGH-FM recently spent some time with Landry and Dr. Augustus White III, a former chairman of orthopedics at Beth Israel Hospital. You can listen to their story here.
