BIDMC Food Drive for Joseph M. Smith Community Heath Center
Posted 12/28/2012
When more than 30 cases of food and toiletries collected from staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center arrived at Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center, they were immediately packed into grocery bags and went right back out the door to patients and families cared for at the health center.
“Our families continue to struggle financially with meeting basic needs. This help from BIDMC is greatly appreciated because it significantly increases the number of patients and families we collectively will be able to help” said Elizabeth Browne, Executive Director of Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center, which serves the communties of Allston, Brighton, Waltham and the surrounding areas.
A team of BIDMC volunteers led by Jane Corey, Eileen Hughes, Terry Morgan, Bethann Rodebush, Michele Strachan, and Nancy Whitman spearheaded the efforts to help collect non-perishable foods and toiletry items.
This is the third year that BIDMC has participated in our drive,” said Francisca Guevara, Community Health Manager, JMSCHC. “The individual generosity of BIDMC staff allowed us to distribute bags of much needed food and toiletries to patient families in our community, helping to make their holidays a little brighter.
