BIDMC recently received Massachusetts ECO Pinnacle and Spotlight Awards. The event, hosted by Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation Richard Davey, honored businesses for their efforts in alternative transportation management.
BIDMC received the top Spotlight Award for Leadership in Commuter Options as well as the 2012 Pinnacle Award for Excellence in Commuter Options.
Bill Burley, Director of Real Estate and Transportation Programs, says BIDMC won the awards thanks to its participation in the consolidated shuttle program; its hosting of three Boston Hubway Bikeshare stations; and its presentation of the Healthy Work/Healthy Home breakfast, awards and environmental fair each year.
In deciding to recognize BIDMC, MassDOT took into consideration the medical center's winning of Boston's Gold Bike Friendly and Most Bike Friendly Business awards. The gift shop sells bike helmets to staff who want to bike to work and there are bike racks to safely store bikes around the campus. BIDMC also offers commuting options such as subway and bus passes at a discount to staff.
