  • BIDMC Food Drive for Joseph M. Smith Community Heath Center

    When more than 30 cases of food and toiletries collected from staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center arrived at Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center, they were immediately packed into grocery bags and went right back out the door to patients and families cared for at the health center.

    “Our families continue to struggle financially with meeting basic needs. This help from BIDMC is greatly appreciated because it significantly increases the number of patients and families we collectively will be able to help” said Elizabeth Browne, Executive Director of Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center, which serves the communties of Allston, Brighton, Waltham and the surrounding areas.

  • Bringing pathologists to forefront of genomic medicine

    A five-year, $1.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funds an innovative program established by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Training Residents in Genomics Working Group, with administrative and educational design support from the American Society for Clinical Pathology, to help pathologists understand genomics information and serve as primary consultants for physicians and patients in interpreting and acting on this data.

  • BIDMC Inspires Red Sox Scholars

    Seventh grader Qiyin Yao, a typical chatty middle school student fell silent as she entered Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with Chief Neonatologist, DeWayne Pursley, MD. Visiting the medical center’s tiniest and most vulnerable patients can have that effect.

    “They’re so small and it’s sad some of them have to stay here for a long time,” Yao said. “But I know they’re being taken good care of and they provide hope to everyone who gets to visit them.”
