Promotes Collaboration
Biomedical research has traditionally been organized by distinct, departmental specialties. But with rapidly evolving discoveries at the molecular level, it's apparent that research can be strenghened and made more accessible through cross-specialty collaboration, an interdisciplinary approach that encourages communication and promotes creative, non-traditional approaches in the pursuit of discovery.
In 2003, BIDMC's Research Strategci Plan called for the creation of a number of interdisciplinary "centers" to promote this collaboration among investigators in departments and specialties throughout the medical center.
