Viral Pathogenesis: Research

The Division of Viral Pathogenesis includes a team of immunology laboratories studying the basic and clinical immunopathology of AIDS and primate retroviral infections. A major component of our research effort utilizes the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infection of macaque monkeys as an animal model for AIDS. Current areas of research include:
- Basic AIDS pathogenesis
- Role of cell mediated immune responses against AIDS viruses
- Vaccine strategies for protection against HIV infection
- New therapeutic modalities
- Development of new animal models
- Immune responses to JC virus
