Waiting Time for a Transplant
What are we measuring?
The median time it takes to receive a transplant at the Transplant Center as compared to other hospitals in New England.
Why is this important?
Many factors affect how long you will wait for a transplant.
What is our performance telling us?
The chart shows how many median months a BIDMC patient is on the wait list for an organ transplant compared to the median wait time for New England hospitals.

Source of data: 2006 OPTN/SRTR Annual Report 1994-2006. HHS/HRSA/HSB/DOT; UNOS; Arbor Research Collaborative for Health.
The median time it takes to receive a transplant is the number where half of the patients will be below it and half of the patients will be above it. For example, the median waiting time for liver transplants shows that half the patients will wait less than 10.7 months and half the patients will wait more than 10.7 months.
