Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center was recognized in 2012 as one of the nation's top hospitals by The Leapfrog Group, the sixth time in seven years BIDMC has been honored. The selection is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group's national survey that measures hospitals' performance in crucial areas of patient safety and quality. As a 2012 Top Hospital, BIDMC met standards for safe, high quality care in preventing medication errors; intensive care unit physician staffing; high-risk surgeries and procedures; and a value score of 69 or better as calculated through Leapfrog's Hospital Recognition Program, which combines quality and resource use. BIDMC tallied a score of 88, placing it in the top 10 percent of 1,066 ranked hospitals across 43 states nationally.
