The South Cove Community Health Center offered a warm welcome to Dr. John Yeh, the newly appointed Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), the hospital affiliate of SCCHC, where more than 300 Asian-American babies are born each year.

In addressing the standing-room crowd at South Cove’s newly renovated Chinatown facility, Yeh described his appreciation for the work of South Cove and his own commitment to patients by quoting a wall plaque that hung in his mother’s kitchen, which said, “You are not poor if you do not have any money; you are poor only if you do not help other people.”

Yeh completed a residency at the Beth Israel Hospital in OB/GYN in the mid 1980s, after graduating from Harvard College and receiving his medical degree from the University of California at San Diego. Most recently, Yeh served as the Chairman of the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics at the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York.
