The Student National Medical Association recently held its Board of Directors meeting and National Leadership Institute at BIDMC. SNMA is the nation's oldest and largest independent, student-run organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color. Membership includes more than 8,000 medical students, pre-medical students, residents and physicians.
“The conference was a resounding success, and many of the attendees reported to me personally new interest in BIDMC as a place to train as a consequence of their positive experiences here,” said Rafael Campo, MD, Director, Office of Multicultural Affairs, and Director, Katherine Swan Ginsburg Humanism in Medicine Program. “They received lectures from our outstanding faculty, had the opportunity to meet directly with program directors representing our nationally-recognized residency programs, and got hands-on exposure to a number of clinical skills in our state-of-the-art Simulation Center.
President and CEO Paul Levy and Beverly Edgehill, CEO of The Partnership, Inc., Boston’s premier professional organization for minorities, attended the closing dinner with the students and offered words of inspiration and encouragement.
