Roxbury, MA –  Working with support from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), The Dimock Center has announced the completion of a full-service pharmacy on-site in its health center. The addition of the pharmacy now provides patients of The Dimock Center with convenient access to prescription medications at little or no cost to qualified individuals.

The Dimock Center has partnered with Eaton Apothecary to manage the operation of the pharmacy, enhancing The Dimock Center’s already comprehensive healthcare services, which include adult primary care, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, general dentistry, eye care and a community care program for HIV/AIDS patients.

“A full-service pharmacy right on campus represents an important addition to our ability to provide those we serve with high-quality, comprehensive care,” observed Ruth Ellen Fitch, The Dimock Center’s President and CEO. “Thanks to the BIDMC’s financial support, we can provide access to low-cost prescription medications and integrated care that is convenient for our patients and clients.”

While physicians and other healthcare providers have the ability to recommend from a growing array of targeted and highly effective medications and treatment options, many prescription medications remain prohibitively expensive for a significant percentage of Americans.

Compound the issue of a prescription medication’s expense with the difficult economic climate, and often patients are forced to decide between filling a prescription and paying for basic household necessities like food and utilities.

“The ability to prescribe an effective medication and have a patient complete the recommended course of treatment is a fundamental component of providing quality healthcare,” observed Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan, The Dimock Center’s Chief Medical Officer. “Access to inexpensive prescription medications that promote patients’ compliance with a treatment program significantly improves outcomes across the board,” continued Minter-Jordan.

The Dimock Center’s new pharmacy directly addresses the key barrier of cost by making affordable prescription medications available right where patients see their healthcare provider. The in-house pharmacy also allows physicians and other healthcare providers to work directly with the pharmacists to monitor patients’ progress and adjust treatments more readily.
