BOSTON - Primary Care LLC (PCLLC), the largest independent network of physicians south of Boston, has added Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) to its list of preferred providers of tertiary care for its 120,000 managed care patients.

The agreement is designed to provide access for patients of PCLLC physicians to key clinical specialties at the hospitals. The specialties include cardiac services, neurosurgery, advanced melanoma and renal cell cancer care and orthopedic surgery.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is the first Harvard affiliated hospital to join the list of PCLLC preferred providers that also includes Boston Medical Center and New England Medical Center. New England Baptist Hospital is affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine.

PCLLC is a community-based network of more than 240 independent primary care physicians and 750 specialists affiliated with 10 community hospitals, primarily south of Boston. Collectively, they care for approximately 450,000 patients, including 120,000 managed care patients.

PCLLC and the hospitals will work together to streamline access for patients. Physicians seeking to refer a patient to BIDMC will call a special access phone line, 1-866-55-PCLLC and speak directly with a representative who will assist them. Physicians seeking to refer a patient to the New England Baptist Bone & Joint Institute will call 1-800-370-6325(NEBJ). One-stop service is available to coordinate the care needs of any PCLLC patient referred to BIDMC or NEBH.

"On behalf of our patients, we're delighted to add Beth Israel Deaconess and New England Baptist to our 'Centers of Excellence' approach to care in key areas," said Marc Edelstein, M.D., Ph.D. Chief Executive Officer of PCLLC. "This new collaboration will enhance the healthcare delivered to our patients by providing them with timely access to the highest quality tertiary services at hospitals known for their extraordinarily compassionate environments."

"We already enjoy a close relationship with the physicians in the PCLLC network," said Stan Lewis, M.D., senior vice president of network integration for BIDMC. "This new agreement, which is consistent with BIDMC's growth strategy, will further strengthen the alliance, which is good for patients, physicians and hospitals."

"New England Baptist Hospital is pleased to have the opportunity to extend our exceptional care and commitment to the patients of PCLLC, " said Alan H. Robbins, MD, President and CEO of New England Baptist Hospital.

The collaboration will include the following clinical specialties:
