Our Mission

The Mission of the Carl J. Shapiro Simulation and Skills Center is to:Multi-disciplinary Team Training. A team of nurses, 3rd year medical students, and residents from anesthesiology and internal medicine perform a mock resuscitation code.

  • train and educate all clinically active healthcare providers of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, neighboring medical institutions, and beyond, through the use of medical and surgical simulation technology;
  • further the educational and clinical missions of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center by incorporating the best methods of training with the most sophisticated tools available to ultimately ensure all patients are provided with the highest degree of patient safety;
  • advance the field of educational simulation by exploring innovative methods of education and training and conducting contributing research;
  • utilize the full range of simulation tools to support individualized learning, both cognitive and procedural, and promote interdisciplinary teaching, team training, communication skills and professionalism among all healthcare providers;
  • enable all learners to achieve the skills, knowledge and behaviors necessary for independent, life-long professional growth.
