Community and Work/Life Programs
From their very beginnings, both Beth Israel and Deaconess hospitals reached out to welcome practitioners and patients who were excluded from other medical facilities. That legacy of inclusion continues today with BIDMC's commitment to diversity and to providing exceptional care that reaches out to all members of our community. Not only do our patients come from many countries, speaking more than 30 languages, our employees and providers also represent many different cultures and lifestyles. The medical center is committed to providing a nurturing and safe environment for all who work and receive care here. We believe that our diversity is our strength, enriching all of us, and we offer many activities to celebrate this diversity.
To learn more about our cultural competence initiative (the effort to provide care that recognizes and responds to differences in cultures), or how to become involved in our multicultural celebrations, please contact our Community Initiatives office at 617-667-2602.
Additionally, the Harvard Office of Work and Family (OWF) provides information, resources, referrals, educational programs and support to those combining work lives with family concerns. The OWF serves the faculty, staff, post docs, and students of Harvard Medical and Dental Schools, Harvard School of Public Health and the participating affiliated institutions as an expression of the medical community's commitment to helping families balance their work lives with the important job of caring for their children, their aging parents and their own personal lives. Whether you're looking for child care centers, family child care, after school programs, summer camps, in-home child care providers or information about public or private schools, the Harvard Office of Work and Family can provide you with the resources you need to find the situation that works best for your family.
The Harvard Office of Work and Family is located at 164 Longwood Avenue, Room 106, Boston, MA 02115. Please call in advance to make an appointment, phone 617 432-1615 or email:
