Harvard Plastic Surgery Residency
Residency Affiliates
The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) participates in the Combined Plastic Surgery Residency Program of Harvard Medical School. As one of the founding and affiliate medical institutions of the residency, we work closely with the other Harvard medical affiliates and plastic surgery faculties from the Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH), Children’s Hospital (CH), Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH) and the Shriners Burns Hospital (SBH). Each medical institution participates in rotations of plastic surgery residents throughout the academic year.
Goal of Residency Program
The primary goal of the Harvard Plastic Surgery Residency Program is to train well-informed and competent plastic and reconstructive surgeons. In addition, it is to train the next generation of leaders and academicians in the field.
Residency Tracks
The Harvard Plastic Surgery Residency Program accepts 6 residents each year. The application process is highly competitive as the Harvard Residency is considered to be one of the best in the nation and internationally. The residency program has two tracks:
Track 1: Three residents, directly out of medical school, are accepted in the 6-year integrated track of the program.
Track 2: Three residents, who have already completed a residency in another surgical specialty, are accepted into the 3-year non-integrated track.
The Harvard Plastic Surgery Residency Program participates in the National Residency Match Program.
