Overview

Positions available:  2 per year
Length of fellowship:  One year
Application deadline:  December 31, 2009
Forms:  Application
Interviews:  October 2009 to January 2010

This one year fellowship has intensive involvement in clinical and research women's imaging activities.

During 6 months in ultrasound the fellow is involved in activities at the outpatient OB/Gyn ultrasound site, which has 6 rooms with state of the art equipment (GE Voluson 730 and Philips IU22 machines). Our radiology department performs approximately 5000 obstetric sonograms, 6000 gynecologic sonograms, 900 ob/gyn interventions (amniocentesis, CVS, pelvic abscess drainage or cyst aspiration) per year. The fellow will be involved in scanning and interpreting many of these cases. Other responsibilities include teaching residents and medical students, and performing/teaching sonohysterograms and hysterogsalpingograms. Dedicated time is given for clinical research. Research activities focus on OB/Gyn ultrasound and obstetric MRI. Conference responsibilities allow for experience in CT and MR of gynecologic disease.

We have a busy clinical breast imaging service with all modalities - GE digital mammography units, Phillips IU22 US units and GE & Siemens breast MRI. During the 6 months in breast imaging, the fellow will interpret screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms/US and perform all procedures, including MRI breast biopsies. Fellows will be involved in doing, teaching or reviewing 15 localizations under mammographic or ultrasonographic guidance/week, perform or be involved with about 3-6 stereotactic core biopsies/week and 10-20 ultrasound guided core biopsies/week. In addition, the fellow will have some responsibility for teaching residents how to interpret studies and perform breast imaging procedures. Fellows will also take part in 1-2 multidisciplinary conferences each week and 1 rad-path conference. Research projects are encouraged and time will be allotted to those doing research.
