The Department of Radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is offering a one year Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Imaging.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is a busy 550 bed teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School and operates as a Level I Trauma Center. The Medical Center includes active Orthopedic and Rheumatology services, as well as the Joslyn Diabetes Clinic and its Podiatry Division. BIDMC is a major New England referral center for orthopedic oncology cases.
The Musculoskeletal Imaging Section is staffed by 6 attending radiologists who specialize in musculoskeletal imaging and intervention. In-house facilities include seven state-of-the-art MRI scanners (two 3.0 tesla and five 1.5 Tesla scanners, including two dedicated research scanners) and seven CT scanners (including three 64-detector scanners), as well as a full range of diagnostic and fluoroscopic units. Musculoskeletal studies from five outpatient centers are also read by the Section in-house, via PACs.
Our program offers comprehensive training in musculoskeletal imaging, with exposure to diverse patients and pathology. Fellows are actively involved in image-guided interventional procedures, including arthrograms and musculoskeletal biopsies. Fellows will also work with a staff neuro-interventionalist to gain basic exposure to vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty and nucleoplasty procedures. Fellows are responsible for conducting a number of weekly and monthly clinical conferences, including conferences related to orthopedic oncology, hand surgery, sports medicine, and rheumatology. Teaching of residents and participation in ongoing research is strongly encouraged. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is internationally recognized for its MRI research and has a comprehensive program in MR imaging of cartilage.
At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, over 2500 musculoskeletal MRI examinations and over 600 musculoskeletal CT examinations are performed each year. In addition, approximately 400 orthopedic spine MRIs are performed each year. Approximately 300 arthrogram procedures are performed each year, including at least 200 MR arthrograms. Additional procedures include approximately 125 imaging-guided musculoskeletal biopsies per year.
Applicants must have completed an accredited radiology residency program and must be certified or qualified for certification for the American Board of Radiology at the beginning of the fellowship.
