Pathology Grand Rounds
Pathology Grand Rounds is organized jointly by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Children's Hospital. Sessions are held at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center approximately every other week and an assortment of food is provided.
For the 2010-2011 academic year, we have once again recruited an outstanding group of speakers. Beginning the year on September 27 is Steve Freedman, Chief of our Division of Translational Research and Director of Clinical Research Affairs. Other speakers will include Nicholas Christakis, Professor of Medical Sociology, Department of Health Care Policy, and Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School; Rulla Tamimi, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health; Rebecca Folkerth, Director of Neuropathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital; and Clifford Saper, James Jackson Putnam Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience and Chairman of the BIDMC Department of Neurology. In addition, there will be a Molecular Microbiology Minisymposium in November and December, which will include a lecture by James Kirby, Medical Director of our Clinical Microbiology Laboratory here at BIDMC. This year for the "Resident Visiting Scholar Professorship", our residents have invited Jonathan Epstein, The Reinhard Professor of Urologic Pathology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and Director of Surgical Pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Speakers for 2009-2010 included George Daley, Associate Professor of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, from the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Children's Hospital; Charles Murry, Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Biology at the University of Washington in Seattle; Trista North from our Division of Experimental Pathology here at BIDMC; Lev Perelman, Director of the Biomedical Imaging and Spectroscopy Laboratory in our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; S. Anath Karumanchi, Howard Hughes Investigator and Associate Professor of Medicine here at BIDMC; Kevin Kit Parker, Associate Professor of Engineering, Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Jennifer Hunt, Director of Quality and Safety, Department of Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital; Andrea Richardson, Assistant Professor of Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital; and John Frangioni, Co-Director of the Center for Molecular Imaging at BIDMC. The residents invited Henry Appelman, Professor of Pathology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine, for the "Resident Visiting Scholar Professorship".
The 2008-2009 academic year kicked off with a bioinformatics minisymposium alternatively held at BIDMC and B&W. Hosted at BIDMC were John Gilbertson, Director of Pathology Informatics at MGH; and Isaac Kohane, Director of the Countway Library at Harvard Medical School and Chair of Informatics at Children's Hospital Boston. Our own Mark Boguski (former Vice President and Global Head of Genome and Proteome Sciences, Novartis Institute for Biomedical Sciences, and former Senior Director of the Allen Institute Brain Atlas Project) spoke at B&W. Additional speakers included Mark Zeidel, Chair of the Department of Medicine at BIDMC; Christopher Walsh, Chief, Divison of Genetics at Children's Hospital and HHMI Investigator; Wenyi Wei, Assistant Professor of Pathology from our Experimental Pathology Division; George Tsokos, Chief, Divison of Rheumatology at BIDMC; Ronald DePinho, Professor of Genetics and Medicine at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute; our own Matthew Anderson, Director of Neuropathology and Assistant Professor of Pathology and Neurology; Ciaran Kelly, Associate Professor of Medicine at BIDMC; Stephen Cannistra, Director of Gynecologic Medical Oncology at BIDMC; Kit Parker, Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Harvard University; and our own Seymour Rosen, Professor of Pathology and Director of Surgical Pathology at BIDMC.
