MERIT
MERIT is a unique rotation that provides coverage to services needed throughout the hospital—caring for medical patients in the emergency room with prolonged wait times for transfer, helping busy wards teams whose residents or interns are in clinic, and performing medical consultation. This is a JAR/SAR only rotation and lasts for one week.
MERIT exists as both a day and night rotation in twelve-hour shifts (9 am to 9 pm or 9 pm to 9 am).
Day MERIT (9 am to 9 pm): Primary responsibilities include management of emergency room patients awaiting inpatient medical or cardiac beds for more than two hours, covering inpatient teams that have multiple residents with clinic or other off-ward responsibilities, and assisting the medicine consult resident as needed.
Night MERIT (9 pm to 9 am): Primary responsibility is to provide backup coverage for interns on the nightfloat rotation and to assist them as necessary. Additionally night MERIT completes all overnight medicine consults and assists the nightfloat admitting residents if needed.
