HIV Primary Care Track
We invite you to consider our innovative HIV Primary Care Track, which is a separate match this year…
Our Mission
The mission of the HIV Primary Care Track is to train future physicians who have a clinical interest in HIV medicine and lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender (LGBT) health.
Our Training Site
Our training site is Fenway Health (
www.FenwayHealth.org), a federally qualified health center that has served as a continuity clinic site for BIDMC primary care residents for many years. It has established a national reputation for providing high quality care for people living with HIV/AIDS and the LGBT population. The health center cares for approximately 18,000 patients, 10% of whom are living with HIV/AIDS, across three clinical sites in the Boston area. The main outpatient facility is located within a short walking distance of BIDMC.
Our Program
In the HIV Primary Care Track, residents will provide continuity care for a substantial cohort of HIV-infected patients. They will receive enhanced training in HIV medicine and LGBT care from BIDMC and Fenway faculty. At the conclusion of their training, residents will be qualified to sit for the HIV Specialty Certification examination from the American Academy of HIV Medicine (
www.aahivm.org).
Our Staff
Dr. Howard Libman, who is Director of the HIV Program in Healthcare Associates at BIDMC, also provides leadership for the HIV Primary Care Track. Other key faculty include Dr. Joseph Baker, Director of Resident Education at Fenway Health and Dr. Jennifer Potter, Fenway Site Director for the HIV Primary Care Track. Preceptors at Fenway Health include Drs. Joseph Baker, Gregory Fenton, and Alex Gonzalez, all of whom have extensive experience in HIV and LGBT care.
Details
As with the general Primary Care Track, HIV Primary Care Track residents will choose a second continuity clinic site throughout their three years of training and will have access to the full primary care didactic and electives curriculum. During their senior year, HIV Primary Care Track residents will be strongly encouraged to participate in the
Global Health Program at a site that provides care for HIV-infected persons in the developing world. BIDMC has established a training program in Botswana for medical resident rotations.
