Application Process

Candidates who have completed at least the first two years of residency in Internal Medicine will be considered for entry in to Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training.  Applications should be initiated 12 months in advance of the anticipated beginning of the fellowship. Selection of fellows through the Specialty Matching Program ( NRMP) is completed 7 months in advance of the beginning date of fellowship training. As advocated by the Infectious Disease Society of America, we use ERAS for submission of application materials.

The program is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to provide training that upon completion qualifies trainees for board certification in infectious diseases. Board eligibility is achieved after successful completion of year two of training.

The following materials are required for application to Fellowship Training in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center:

  • Common application form submitted through  ERAS
  • 3 letters of recommendation, one letter must be from Program Director of Internal Medicine training
  • Curriculum vitae (resume)
  • A personal statement describing your interests and professional goals
  • USMLE scores Steps I, II, and III (required to obtain Massachusetts Medical license)
  • Photograph (not mandatory but helpful)

Foreign Medical Graduates must hold an ECFMG certificate.   We do accept applications from candidates with J-1 or H1-B visas.

We will be accepting applications for the July 2014 fellowship class between July 1 and August 30, 2013.  Applications received after that date will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.    Applicants will be contacted regarding interviews after August 15.  Interviews will be held during September and October 2013.  We choose our interview dates to coincide with the other Harvard training programs, for the convenience of applicants traveling from other cities.
