Application Process

The program accepts 6-8 fellows each year. Applicants need to complete three years of residency training in either Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and be board-eligible in internal medicine or family medicine prior to starting the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship.

The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program begins accepting applications 18 months prior to the beginning of the program. At this time, Geriatric Medicine Programs do not participate in the NMRP match. However, we do follow a timetable similar to other Internal Medicine Fellowships. After receipt of a complete application, selected candidates are invited for interviews with members of the faculty. The program accepts candidates on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

The following materials are required for application to the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship.

• Apply via the common application form submitted through ERAS

• If you use ERAS, also complete the 3rd page of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Application Form, indicating whether you are interested in pursuing a second year of Fellowship training, either in the clinician educator/leadership track, or the gerontology research track. Please review these instructions

• Three letters of recommendation, including one from the director of your residency program.

• Curriculum vitae

• USMLE scores for Step 1, 2 and 3. If you have not yet taken Step 3, you must pass prior to starting the fellowship.

• Ask your designated Medical School's Dean's Office to send a Medical School Transcript and Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MPSE) directly to the program.

• All candidates should write a one (1) to two (2) page personal statement. This statement should include a description of your career goals, your interests in geriatric medicine and the reason why you have selected a particular training pathway. Your statement should be typed, double-spaced and use 12 point font.
