A Message from the Chief Residents
A Message from the Chief Residents
The residents at BIDMC are proud of the excellent educational, research, and clinical experiences that our program offers. Our residents have every opportunity to learn and enhance their knowledge of anesthesiology through regular afternoon lectures, weekly resident-led keyword sessions, state-of-the-art simulations, regional and echo workshops, and research conferences.
In addition to the numerous academic opportunities, the program encourages its residents to pursue an active role in the profession of anesthesiology outside of the hospital. Our residents and fellows present annually at major national conferences and are involved in committees within the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, International Anesthesia Research Society, and Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists. Some residents participate in policy sessions for the ASA in Washington, D.C. and are active members in the ASA Political Action Committee and the MSA Committee on Resident Affairs. Others pursue interests in global health, providing anesthesia care and education in countries like Tanzania, China, Cambodia, and Ethiopia as well as working with global charities, such as Lifebox. The department is truly dedicated to the professional interests of its residents and will support them in any way possible.
Living in the historical city of Boston offers many exciting cultural, social, and recreational activities. Whether its working and studying together, or socializing after work and hanging out on the weekends, our residents foster a sense of teamwork and camaraderie that is unique to the residency program.
Lastly, after graduating, our residents find themselves in top fellowships, academic positions or private practice groups both in New England and across the country, thanks to our vast alumni network.
We encourage you to take a look around the website or, even better, come for a visit in Boston! Please feel free to contact us via email (AnesthesiaChiefResidents@caregroup.harvard.edu) if you have any questions about the program.
With Our Best Regards,
The 2013-2014 Chief Residents
